In order to interact with a blockchain and try the following proofs of concept, you need a crypto wallet. This crypto wallet not only displays your crypto assets, but also stores your private key. This private key is used to sign transactions such as payments, minting of NFTs and so on. The video on the left gives you more detailed instructions.

Metamask supports a lot of different blockchain with Ethereum as the default. The proofs of concept down below do not use the (relatively expensive) Etherum mainnet, but free copy used to experiment and develope new software (of course they would work identically in the mainnet). Therefore, please switch to the Holesky Testnet by clicking the button below. If this does not work, you can add the testnet manually using the information from the second link.

While fees for transactions on the Ethereum mainnet must be paid with pricy cryptocurrency, the "currency" on the testnet is free. You can obtain free testnet tokens from the "faucet" via the link below.

The most obvious application for crypto is as payment option. The following link brings you to a compact website that interacts with your Metamask wallet and allows you to send coins to other addresses.

Maybe you've already heard of "NFTs". In contrast to popular belief, NFTs are not "ape-pictures" or alike, but individual tokens with varying properties that are saved on the blockchain and accessed via your wallet. The link below brings you to a website where you can pay with your testnet coins to create ("mint") an NFT with various properties that you can access with your Metamask wallet. In example 3 (below), we will use this NFT as access control to a dedicated part of the website (such as a paid membership area).
